Keeping up with next season’s trend predictions and following fashion weeks throughout the world can be a challenge for anyone. With so many designers, and so many collections, determining the top trends can be an overwhelming task. Not only are there fall and spring fashion weeks, but many designers now feature pre-fall and resort wear collections.
With summer quickly approaching, resort wear provides the perfect go-to for outfit inspiration. Resort wear is designed for warmer weather, and has a more casual feel than the traditional collections. Resort collections are still relatively new within the fashion world and resulted from the streamlining of the fashion design and distribution process.
According to Refinery29, designers began with fall and spring collections because they corresponded with the seasons, and designing and producing a collection typically took about six months. However, with modern technology and manufacturing processes, spring and fall collections can be produced more quickly, leaving time for designers to create additional collections.
Characteristics of resort wear typically include bright colors and patterns, more casual fabrics, such as cotton and linen, and comfortable styles that can be worn in tropical locales, such as maxi dresses and bathing suits.
The major trends of resort wear 2012 include nautical accents, floral prints and tailored swimsuit tops.
Nautical Accents
Nautical touches could be seen in many of the resort 2012 collections, including Yves St. Laurent, From a navy and white color scheme, to horizontal stripes and anchors and seashells trend remains a popular choice when the weather heats up. For everyday, try a nautical inspired necklace or a basic striped shirt.
Floral Prints
Floral prints splashed across flowy sundresses, shirts and even shorts. While some of the floral prints may seem bold, the unstructured tailoring calms them down, making them accessible to anyone. Try a floral print dress or shoes for a fun summer look.
Tailored Bathing Suit Tops
Tailored bathing suit tops are no longer just for lounging by the pool. Designers have translated the flattering silhouette into a style than can be layered for more coverage and worn during hot summer days. Try an athletic silhouette or a tankini top for a more modest take on the trend.
