Poppy King’s lipstick collection, Lipstick Queen, branching out

Poppy King’s career in lipstick started just after she had turned 18. King, an Australian native, found that most lipsticks were slimy, felt thin and lacked the pigment she wanted. She was inspired by the screen sirens of the 1940s when designing her first lipstick.

For 12 years King’s lipsticks were a hit in Australia. In 2002, she brought the Lipstick Queen brand to the states.

The innovative Lipstick Queen shades include Jean Queen. A pink that was specifically created to be worn with jeans to offset the blue in the denim. Sinner is a line of 10 vibrant matte lipsticks that rival the sheer Saint line. Black Tie Optional is a unique sheer black lipstick and gloss that the website description states, “…does for your lips what sheer black stockings do for your legs.”

The Lipstick Queen luxury line is available at Barneys New York at Scottsdale Fashion Square and other retailers around the United States. However, King will be joining the ranks of designers such as, Anna Sui, Proenza Schouler and Angela Missoni and launching her unique brand at Target.

The collaboration with a UK drugstore, Boots, will feature seven lipsticks and seven lip glosses. The collection will be sold under the name “No. 7 Poppy King.”

The shades will range from popular shades like deep reds to edgier shades like the sheer black and burnt orange. The Target line will cost around $10 each, where as the luxury Barneys New York line price range is $18-22.

Poppy King is taking the world by storm, one lipstick at a time.
