Fashion is often a visual medium. We gaze at runways and feast our eyes on the spreads of our favorite magazines. Is it possible that fashion could also be expressed through your headphones?

There are tons of tunes out there that make you feel like strutting down a runway (or at least your bedroom), or songs that celebrate style and look at life in terms of fashion. (Not a bad outlook, I’ll tell you that.) So pull up Spotify and get ready to load your music library with my playlist of fashionable music.

“Vogue” by Madonna

The definition of a classic. From the original queen herself, this 1990 song is an unapologetic celebration of style and self.

“Glam” by Christina Aguilera

This runway-worthy song contains one of the most inspiring lines in the history of music: “Ready, set, now go, bitches. Let’s get glam.” Belt it out, Christina.

“Style” by Taylor Swift

If you haven’t heard this song by now, you have some explaining (and listening) to do. The song, in true Taylor Swift form, laments on a tumultuous romance while singing about the distinctive style choices of the two players in this love game, i.e. a white t-shirt and slacked-back hair vs. red lips and a tight little skirt. Warning: You will have “Out! Of! Style!” stuck in your head for the next 24 hours.

“Donatella” by Lady Gaga

This Gaga jam cheekily celebrates blatant vanity and materialism. The title alone hints that this pop banger will help you achieve the confidence you need to carry yourself like a damn icon.

“Blue Jeans” by Lana Del Rey

Lana takes a note from T. Swift on this one and describes an intoxicating relationship in terms of one’s fashion choices. Not only does Lana’s flame rock blue jeans and a white shirt, but she compares their relationship to the comfort and perfect fit of her favorite sweater. How nice. (Knowing, the situation is probably a lot darker than this.)

“Fashionista” by Jimmy James

This song really confused me until I realized how catchy it was. In “Fashionista,” James names more designers in three and a half minutes than I could probably name in my lifetime. And who could argue with the poetic lyric that “Fashion is the art, designers are the gods”?

“Showstopper” by Brandon & Leah

If you watch the Kardashians (don’t be ashamed, I do too), you’ve probably heard this song. This is the catchy groove that was the soundtrack to some commercials for the show. One thing’s for sure: Blasting this song will definitely make you feel like a showstopper.

“Big Sunglasses” by Dragonette

Sunglasses aren’t just a summertime staple anymore. This fun indie-pop tune equates large frames as the ultimate sign of success. Makes sense to me.

“***Flawless” by Beyonce

Based on the amount of times I’ve seen “I woke up like dis” on shirts, social media, and the like, I don’t think this one needs to be explained. The most aggressive-sounding assertion of fabulosity? A badass feminist manifesto, courtesy of Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie in the middle of the song? An unapologetic celebration of the self? Take your pick.

“Little Black Dress” by One Direction

While girls are totally way more than what they’re wearing (I’m sure the One Direction dudes know that, right?), this song celebrates the classic LBD and an outfit’s ability to make a great first impression.
