With a motto of “Bridging Designers & Buyers,” Saturday night of Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort was certainly an experience I will hold onto for years to come. Upon walking into the venue, I was taken aback by the hundreds of beautiful people sporting their respective fashion favorites. As the show prepared to begin, lights and music filled the cool October evening air, creating an aura of anticipation, sophistication and energy.
Finally, fashion stormed the runway. Emerging designers included Adiore by Saba, Hues of Ego, Jacqueline Nicole, Lilliene Lang and Rayan. Kenneth Harion Couture, Yen and Rocky Gathercole, three well-established designers, closed the show after the emerging designers finished showing their new collections.
Avant-garde designer, Rocky Gathercole, provided a stunning finale to these four inspirational days of fashion. His costume-like pieces blew the audience away with exuberantly beaded, wings, horns and dresses. The complex characters created by Gathercole were vivid and interesting, ranging from a fierce crimson devil-like monster to the epitome of all things adorable: fluffy, ruffled pink and white Hello Kitty. The designs brought different perspectives and unprecedented, fun ensembles to an otherwise traditional fashion show, closing off the night with unexpected excitement and curiosity.
Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort was an overwhelming success, allowing emerging designers and models to compete for amazing opportunities with huge brand-name companies. The competition of Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort was overshadowed by the tremendous learning opportunity it provided for these aspiring members of the fashion community.
As a fashionista myself, I am excited to see what other amazing young minds will take over the runway next fall, redefining the look of Phoenix and creating a higher overall quality of chic in our own valley.
