If you’re familiar with the designer brand MOSCHINO, then you may know that the styles are typically bright and colorful, as well as eccentric, playful and a bit avant-garde. The types of clothes MOSCHINO designs are usually more fun and creative as opposed to what you might see in other brands. For this year’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW), creative director Jeremy Scott brought playfulness to a whole new level with his newest collection.
MOSCHINO’s spring/summer 2022 collection is called: Ladies Who Lunch. The fashion show took place on Sept. 9 in Bryant Park. The collection consists of nothing but bright pastel colors and childlike designs. Some of the looks include sweetheart neckline dresses, skirt suits and a couple of trench coats.
Each look has to do with something baby or toddler related as if it was couture for babies. There were cartoon animals on almost every piece of clothing, stuffed animal and toy block purses, quilted coats resembling baby blankets, dresses, skirts, and feathery shawls. Most of the fabrics included a combination of different patterns such as gingham, houndstooth, tiny polka dots, plaid and several different floral patterns. Together, those patterns were designed to look like patchwork.
Supermodel Gigi Hadid opened the show with a colorful skirt suit which had animals with different patterns, a matching handbag and a plastic chunky chain necklace with block letters that spelled out MOSCHINO. She also closed the show with a floor length, patchwork dress with cartoon animals all over. The one-shouldered dress also included an elephant on the shoulder with the trunk extending down as the sleeve, accompanied by an oversized baby bottle. Those are just a couple of the unique looks from the show, some even included a baby mobile headpiece and stuffed animals attached to the dresses.
Another notable part of the show included Aaron Rose Philip’s runway debut. Though she isn’t new to the spotlight, being on a magazine cover as well as campaigns with Sephora, she was new to the catwalk. She was dressed in a yellow skirt suit with white trims and a plastic chain belt with keys attached. Philip’s debut is a historic moment for the Black disabled transgender community. At the end of the show, Jeremy Scott even brought her back out on the runway with him just to celebrate this big accomplishment of hers.
Although NYFW came to a close on Sept. 12, there are still three more weeks to look forward to in the fashion world. London Fashion week, Milan Fashion Week, and Paris Fashion Week also make up fashion month in September. London is next, starting on Sept. 16 and ending Sept. 21.
What do you hope to see from MOSCHINO in the future?
