Day 8 of New York Fashion Week featured an assortment of patters, colors, silhouettes and themes. Designers Michael Kors, J. Mendel and Rachel Zoe were some of my favorites, but there was something for everyone on yesterday’s runways.
Michael Kors
Primary colors and classic silhouettes dominated the Michael Kors Spring 2013 runway. Stripes and clean lines were also a common theme. The evening wear featured cut-outs which are still a thing transitioning into Spring. Overall, the Kors collections was classic with a modern, sporty vibe and was actually one of my favorite collections of spring so far.
Nanette Lepore
Bright pastels were all the rage at Nanette Lepore. There was also a lot of print mixing going on that I can definitely get behind. There was also a lot of black and white gingham – picnic in the park anyone?
Rachel Zoe
The stylist-designer did not disappoint for Spring 2013. Zoe said in an interview with the LA Times that she found inspiration for this collection from, “the effortless style of Jane Birkin, Talitha Getty and the girls I see walking around LA.” While Zoe is known for her boho style, these pieces also features elegant separates that anyone could incorporate into their wardrobe. Per usual, there were also obvious 70’s influences that can be seen in the silhouettes and the accessories.
J. Mendel
J. Mendel was said to have gotten his inspiration for the collection from Japanese gardens. I loved the rather muted color scheme except for that brilliant pop of bright orange mid show. Mendel’s clean lines, modern silhouettes and occasional fur accents made this an all around gorgeous, ready-to-wear collection. I can see celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan rocking these dresses and wearing the separates from this collection as well.
Anna Sui
What stood out to me the most on the Anna Sui Spring 2013 runway was the brightly colored cropped hair that donned each model. Sui also gave off this cool girl goes to a garden party vibe complete with lots of mixed patters, floral and lace!
