New York Fashion Week rolled on, with Day 7 showing the collections of some of the most seasoned veterans in the industry. So, let’s get started. Here are some of the best looks from yesterday’s shows.
Michael Kors
Kors’ collection was full of rich, luxurious fabrics. The majority of his clothes were chunky knits in neutral colors with an occasional pop of red. Some pieces were accessorized with fur collars, which are predicted to be a fall 2012 trend. While all the clothes were great, the last few outfits in his show were some of the best. Kors showed six dresses dripping in sequins as his big finale. They were showstoppers. His use of a light-washed wood runway was the perfect blank slate on which to present this impressive show.
Nanette Lepore
Lepore brightened up New York with her vivid colors and busy patterns. Many of the pieces looked like the “Mad Men” wardrobe dip-dyed in hues from the 1970s. What woman wouldn’t love to strut into the office wearing that yellow hounds tooth suit? With models kept simple, with pulled back hair and side-swept bangs, the clothes were able to take center-stage.
J. Mendel
J. Mendel, a favorite of glamorous gown-wearing celebrities everywhere, put on an impressive show Wednesday. He continued with the fur trend, showing dresses made completely out of the plush material. The mustards, mauves, tans and creams shown in his designs are perfect for fall. His models looked youthful and fresh, with their simple hair in waves kept behind their shoulders.
Marchesa
Marchesa impressed at the Plaza Hotel with a collection consisting solely of stunning gowns. Most dresses featured tulle and see-through cutout bodices, which Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, the brand’s designers, are known for. You can definitely envision some of your favorite Hollywood starlets donning their creations. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see a few of these come straight off the runway and into real life at the Oscars!
Wednesday proved to be a great day for fashion in the Big Apple. What were some of your favorite looks from the shows?
