Well, it is that marvelous time of year again everyone, one of my personal favorite holidays, Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. The time of year when we can escape the almost routine spring trends that we have been wearing for months now and look to the future, to fall fashion where everything is rich, detailed and fabulous.

The fashionable festivities kicked off with Nicholas K whose designs clearly had western influences (check out those hats), but don’t be alarmed, the cowgirls that were featured were anything but country. Layered leather, jewel toned colors, fringe, fur, oh and did I mention layering? That’s kind of their signature.

Next up was my personal favorite of the day, BCBG Max Azria. Color-blocking will obviously still be huge come fall and I am still loving it, especially with these bright, jewel-toned colors. I was also a big fan of the 40s silhouettes. The calf-length hemlines, pleats and fabrics are all so minimalist and yet so chic. This is definitely one of the most wearable collections in my opinion. And did you see the fur details? As Rachel Zoe would say, I die.

Richard Chai LOVE was up next and in my mind showcased the perfect balance of masculinity and feminity. Jackets were structured, colors were muted and silhouettes were fairly basic. There were pops of color in thick stripes and florals, but again this was another very minimalistic and wearable collection.

The last, but certainly not least, collection I viewed was Tadashi Shoji. His collections featured elegant gowns with an old Hollywood glamour feel, a la the 1920s and 1930s. Drop waist dresses, lace, florals, fringe and velvet all played a role in this collection and it was definitely a crowd pleaser. Silhouettes were elegant and glamorous and colors were bold.
