La La Land–a movie about love. However, before I fell in love with the music in the movie, I fell in love with Emma Stone’s character, Mia Dolan’s sense of style.
One of the first outfits you see Mia in is her work uniform. Mia pairs a white button down shirt with a denim skirt and blue flats for an effortless look. Even though her work outfit is neutral she adds a red bag to liven up this dull outfit.
Another casual outfit that I love is this blue two-piece that she styles with a yellow purse. This set looks comfy yet cute and perfect for going on a date like Mia did. I bought a yellow cross-body because of this look and I’m so glad I did. This colored purse will give a pop of color to any outfit and take it to the next level.
The most iconic outfit of the movie is the yellow dress that Mia wears for her tap dancing scene. This dress is a yellow dress with a hand-painted design on it. Mary Zophres, La La Land costume designer, really nailed it with this one. This dress makes Mia shine against the background of a bright city and she somehow shines brighter than all of the lights.
The outfit that embodies old Hollywood glamour for me is the blue halter party dress Mia wears. The flowy material of this dress makes it perfect for dancing the night away with your friends. While the color is bright and fun the sheer overlay offers a layer of sophistication that you wouldn’t normally get with a casual dress.
My favorite outfit that Mia wears in La La Land is the emerald green cap-sleeve dress that she wore to the Griffith Observatory. The green of this dress goes perfectly with Mia’s fair skin and red hair and helps her look flawless.
The best thing about Mia’s style is that anyone can create a look similar to hers because of the array of colors she wears. I was able to recreate my favorite look with this green dress and black ankle heels that I already had in my closet.
