The press tour for the new movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the sequel to the original ‘90s comedy-horror, started Aug.13 in Mexico City. Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid Deetz, Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the new movie, paid homage to the original film with her outfits throughout the tour.

Ortega, styled by Enrique Melendez, wore an archival 2009 Vivienne Westwood dress to kick off her press tour in Mexico. The dress was a sheer tan color that draped off the shoulder and cut off at the knees. The shiny black vinyl squiggles on the dress gave a more eerie feeling, reflecting Ortega’s character in the movie.

The dress was paired with custom Steve Madden Mary Jane heels with a snakeskin pattern, inspired by the snake head from the original Beetlejuice movie.

During a press day in Mexico City, Ortega was seen wearing a Marc Jacobs runway blazer with barrel-cut jeans from Gap and spiked heels from Le Silla. The blazer holds the spotlight with its contrasting black and white stripes. The inspiration for this look was taken directly from the titular character Betelgeuse himself.

Throughout the press tour, Ortega can be seen wearing black and white stripes multiple times, whether it's a more subtle look or a statement piece.

She took a more subtle, chic look with a toned-down version of her striped Beetlejuice outfit. She was photographed in a black and gray pinstripe long-sleeve midi dress from Dolce&Gabbana. She later continued the pinstripe theme with a Vivienne Westwood cropped jacket and matching skirt, styled with sheer black striped tights.

Ortega recreated Lydia Deetz’s school uniform outfit, wearing a dark green plaid skirt by Thom Browne, a cropped white button-up, and an embroidered navy blue cardigan. She then accessorized with a custom-made handbag by OZIAS. The bag was shaped like a book that read “Handbag for the Recently Deceased,” referencing the “Handbook for the Recently Deceased” in the movie.

One of the most detailed looks that Ortega has worn on this tour has to be the custom-matching monotone teal corset and skirt by Lurline. The leather corset was intricately molded and stitched to look like the shrunken head from the original movie. She then accessorized with a dark purple and green floral headpiece made by a local Mexican floral designer, Florever MX.

On opening night at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, she stunned in a custom red Dior gown inspired by Lydia Deetz’s red wedding dress from the original movie. The gown featured hand-stitched tulle to create a split floating heart-shaped bodice that swept into a floor-length skirt.

On September 1st, Ortega wore a custom Harris Reed dress inspired by Delia Deetz and sculptures from the original movie for the London premiere. The teal and black color-blocked dress is in the style of “upcycled wallpaper Demi Couture,” according to designer Harris Reed. The top was structured, flaring out from the waist and cutting to a straight rectangle for the skirt. The dress was accessorized with black velvet opera gloves and another custom OZIAS handbag in the shape of the white Beetlejuice house.

Ortega took the spotlight and stayed true to her character, Astrid Deetz, by fully embracing the iconic Tim Burton Beetlejuice style. Ortega and her stylist, Enrique Melendez, paid attention to every detail and collaborated with many amazing brands to bring these wacky characters to life.
