Everyone loves that feeling of having a new hair cut; your hair feels softer, healthier and shiny. However, the struggle occurs following the cut and you have to wash your hair. Gone is the shine, the volume, and the softness. The same is said with facials. No matter the cream or technique you use, it never produces the same spa euphoria you once felt.
There is, however, a tool that recreates the same sensation of professionals massaging your skin: the jade roller. With nearly everyone talking about it, here’s everything you need to know about the sensational device.
WHAT IS IT?
A jade roller is a paint-like tool that is used to roll over the face. Most jade rollers have two ends; one a smaller jade stone (for under the eyes) and on the other end a bigger stone (intended for the jawline, forehead, cheeks, and neck).
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Basically, it was created to decrease puffiness, under-eye circles and to minimize fine lines. To emphasize how exactly it does that, there’s some science behind it. The roller massages the lymphatic system, which is a network of tissues and organs below the skin that helps to rid the body of toxins and waste. Our face, just like our bodies, can store excess water therefore by massaging the lymphatic system helps our face move the excess water, which causes puffiness. When water is removed, you’ll have clearer, healthier skin without a buildup of toxins and fluids.
Note: In many cultures, jade is seen as a symbol of prosperity, purity, and tranquility.
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
Start with clean, moisturized skin then begin from your clavicle (see picture) then move to your jawline and neck. From there your nose, lips, and chin then finally ending with forehead and eyes. Always roll in an upward and outward direction
Note: for a cooling sensation keep your jade roller in the fridge
I TRIED IT…DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK?
While I was initially super skeptical about rolling two stones all over my face, I was rather curious to see if it did, in fact, improve my skin. First, I googled top jade rollers and to my luck, a variety popped up. However, I didn’t want to spend a whole lot just in case it didn’t work so I ended up purchasing the cheapest at $8 from Amazon. Once it arrived in the mail, I was excited to jump in and try it. From that moment on, I used the jade roller, night and day, after washing my face and putting moisturizer and under eye cream on and here were my results:
For depuffing under eyes, it absolutely worked. I woke up and felt my under eyes were smoother and more vibrant
As for my cheeks, I did notice it reduced my acne scars on my cheeks and made my skin significantly smoother
However, in other areas such as forehead, neck, and jawline it was hard to see a noticeable difference
Overall, I’ve started enjoying giving myself a mini facial. There’s something about the cooling stones that is incredibly soothing and not to mention leaves my skin feeling baby smooth.
