Holiday Wish List: Birkenstock Boston Clog

The time for holiday wish lists is upon us, and my personal favorite item to add to the wishlist is shoes. The shoe that is getting a lot of buzz this year is the Birkenstock Boston Clog.

You’ve probably seen the soft taupe suede shoes grace your TikTok feeds and may have even heard your friends say they have been trying to find a pair too. I work in a local shoe store in Tempe, and the Boston Clog is the shoe that never stays on the shelves. We have sold hundreds of pairs of them in the last few months, and we already have a stack of people waiting to get a pair from us in the new year.

As we all know, fashion fluctuates, but Birkenstock has remained in-trend over the years. The company traces back over 200 years with cobbler Johann Adam Birkenstock starting out in the family industry in 1774, according to the Birkenstock website. Many years later, Konrad Birkenstock invented the first insole and arch support that the company is now known for.

An article from Forbes explains that the Boston style was first introduced in 1979 and had its first spotlight moment in the 1990s and early 2000s. The trend has officially come back around with people of all ages trying everything to get their hands on a pair.

Some people are even paying a handsome price to be able to get some. In October, The New York Times published an article explaining that some pairs were being resold on eBay and Poshmark for over $300. As of Dec. 8, people were still selling them on eBay for around $250 when the shoe sells straight from Birkenstock for $155 plus tax.

If the Boston Clog is on your wishlist, there are a few ways for you to get a pair. First, call up your local stores to see if there are any in stock. Locally owned businesses will highly appreciate you trying to purchase from them. Even if it isn’t in stock, consider heading into a store to get fitted. Birkenstocks are a hard shoe to fit, so it is especially important to try them on.

Local stores will most likely not get anymore shipments in until after the first of the year. However, you can add your name to a call list if your size is not currently in stock, or head to the Birkenstock website to order directly from the company.

If you have your eye on the shoe of the year, all I can say is happy hunting!
