Forks up! A game day lookbook

By Olivia Munson

Football season at Arizona State is definitely a time of high spirits and loud cheers. Whether you are in the stands or at a tailgate, here are some outfit ideas to switch up your Saturdays for game day.

Maroon and gold are staple colors for any ASU student. In this first outfit, I paired a light yellow Sun Devils logo tee with a maroon cheer skirt. I cuffed the sleeves of the shirt to give it more of a laid-back style. Recently, tailgate fashion at colleges and universities has been centered around these skirts. This new trend is one of my favorites since it allows you to look super cute while also staying comfortable and cool on those hot Saturday nights. I ordered mine from Amazon and it was a lot cheaper than expected, being half the price of the cheer skirt that can be purchased at the campus store. To finish off the outfit, I added white high-top converse and yellow statement glasses.

To continue the ASU color scheme, the next outfit features red BDG jeans and a gold tube top. This outfit is geared more towards games during the cooler months, since the weather is still very hot. Despite that, I still wore this to the first game and it was so much fun to rep the school colors in such a unique way. Colored denim made its way back into current fashion last spring and I am happy it did- these pants really make a statement! Also, do not forget to bring your clear backpack or fanny pack.

For football games, you do not have to buy a bunch of new ASU apparel to look your best on game day. There are plenty of clothes you would be surprised you or your family have in the back of your closets. This outfit is centered around a vintage t-shirt that my mom has had since the 90s. With it, I added some black denim shorts and a distressed baseball cap. The look is more relaxed and can easily be worn to the stadium or while kicking back and watching the game on TV.

From all the events at ASU, you might have some left over free t-shirts. By upcycling and DIYing these shirts, you can give them new purpose and add a more personal flair. My roommate received this t-shirt at her orientation date and instead of throwing it in a drawer, she cut the neckline and transformed it into a trendy back-tie halter. Paired with a cute bralette, this shirt is sure to have people asking “Where did you buy that?” and you can proudly reply “I made it myself.” I added darker-wash denim shorts and black Nike trainers to complete the look.
