Friday marked the start of a weekend of runway shows presented by Arizona Fashion Week. The opening event was hosted at the chic Jet Set Hangar in Scottsdale, where seven designers presented their collections under the fall night sky.
Two celebrity designers, Mister Triple X and Kenneth Barlis, bookended the show.
Mister Triple X leaned into the color scheme of the aviation realm: silver, gray, black and white were the thread that held his collection in symmetry. Thematically, the collection was deconstructed into several different pieces including long gothic gowns, hooded tank tops and mesh shorts paired with boxing gloves. The line was a striking start to the show.
Opposingly, Kenneth Barlis had a collection dedicated to a classic spring theme. Floral and butterfly-printed suits and tulle dresses in bright pops of color, such as blood orange, gave the feel of beauty and new life. Perhaps the most unique piece of his line, however, was a collection of deconstructed denim jackets adorned with pearls, rhinestones and mirrors.

Iron Rose Music, Blase Raschke, Naava Swim, DC KNITS, and Good Road Collection were the other five designers in the show.
DC KNITS took the concept of knitting and constructed a powerful line of pieces that centered around colors of the desert scene and a unique take on mid-century modern clothing of the 1950s and 60s. The use of colorblocking, gogo boots, cowl neck halter tops and bright jewelry, was a bold take on knitwear that was both impressive and enticing.

Iron Rose Music was an unconventional mix of music and fashion. The brand, which is a combination of original music and original designs, leaned into a streetwear look. Jerseys adorned with the Iron Rose logo was paired with sweats, shorts, sneakers and oversized jewelry.
Naava Swim was an interesting collection to see featured in a November show. Most of the models were styled in brightly colored bikinis and French cut pieces, paired with fur hats, leg warmers and stoles. The most visually striking was a model styled in a white one-piece paired with white fur accessories and a classic cigarette holder. While it is not practical winter wear, Naava Swim proved that even in the colder months, swimwear is still chic and stylish.

Blase Raschke was the first line to follow Mister Triple X, and was a stark contrast to the blend of dark colors and deconstructed looks of Triple X. Blase Raschke’s collection was the definition of “classic womenswear.” Models were styled with 1950s pinup hairstyles and adorned very structured pencil dresses or flowy A-line skirts with petticoats. The attention to detail was notable, especially in the beaded fringe that hung down on many of the dresses. Not only were the designs reflective of one another, but the palette of the collection was cohesive and rich in jewel tones.
By far the crowd's favorite collection of the night was Good Road Collection. All of the fabrics used to create designs were created as artwork that was then transferred onto fabric. The color symmetry in the pieces cannot be understated, as every piece had varied hues of blue, green, mauve, purple and orange. Each piece was not like the last in structure, but the art on the fabric is what made the line cohesive and eye-catching.
By the end of the night, each designer had showcased a collection that was unique to their brand and reflective of the creativity that Arizona Fashion Week promotes. The experience at the Jet Set Hangar was a strong start to a weekend full of AZFW runway shows.
