Downtown Phoenix is full of local businesses that college students flood with friends for study groups, dates and self-care days. Coffee shops are some of the most popular places for the community to come together. Three of these popular shops near ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus include Breakfast Bitch, Fillmore Coffee Co. and Daydreamer.
Breakfast Bitch has an upbeat, funky and energetic vibe that it brings to customer's experiences. With music blasting and servers singing this is a unique must-see restaurant with the best coffee bar called Coffee Bitch. The owners have recently expanded the restaurant, opening another bar on weekends.\
“Here, you'll meet an eclectic mix of personalities that make every shift an adventure,” front-of-house manager and head barista Brittney Barlett said. “It’s the groups of friends who turn their coffee run into an impromptu party. Our customers bring a vibrant energy you just don’t find at a regular coffee spot. Every day is unpredictable, exciting, and filled with unforgettable moments.”
Their menu is extensive and original. Bartlett seemed to be full of pride while she made drinks with bubbles floating on top and brulèed drinks too.
Fillmore Coffee Co. is located at 600 North Fourth Street attached to the Skyline Lofts near the Arizona State Downtown campus. This local shop covered in Halloween decorations was full of lively working people having meetings, working on assignments and simply enjoying the presence of friends over a coffee. Their menu is always adapting with seasonal drinks rotating all of the time and their kitchen has many delicious options that are more hardy than the traditional cafè.
“We are really personable, we build strong relationships with customers and we see them every single day,” said manager Olivia Owens. “They bring their families to try our stuff. Plus we decorate for holidays better than everyone else.”
Owens continued to decorate the cafè while drinks came to the counter ready for customers to enjoy. The warm, inviting building smelled of coffee and Fall as customers greeted servers by name.
Daydreamer on 3rd Street is a modern, yet groovy atmosphere that brings in many from the building it is located in and others just wanting a fun cafè to work in. The colors bring a young yet luxurious feel with comforting employees walking around helping everyone that they serve.
Lily Barnes, the general manager, said, “The owners put a lot of care into the product they provide us, it’s not just coffee it’s the beans we source, the milk, it’s the people who serve the
coffee. You are not just getting good coffee, it's a smile, a conversation and you’re leaving wanting more. That’s what makes it different from just your run-of-the-mill coffee shop.”
These coffee shops support many different people all over Phoenix and begin their days with a cup of happiness.
