Bella Hadid Finally makes her Long-Awaited return to the Runway

After skipping the spring/summer 2022 collections for fashion month in the fall last year, Bella Hadid finally made her comeback on the runway during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

The 25-year-old supermodel started NYFW off by walking for designer Proenza Schouler on Feb. 11, where she modeled one look for the fall/winter 2022 collection. For Schouler’s collection, she wore a long sleeve black top with a hood and a large gold pin on the upper left of the top accompanied with dark gray or khaki-colored wide-leg bottoms.

She closed out her fashion week by walking for designer Michael Kors on Feb. 15, modeling two looks for his fall/winter 2022 collection. For Kors’ collection, the first look incorporated an off-white colored dress with a large tan belt. The dress has an asymmetrical wrap at the bottom, similar to how an asymmetrical skirt would look.

Her second look for Kors was a floor-length black sequin dress with a side cut-out and a mock neck.

Before this year’s NYFW, Hadid hadn’t made a runway appearance since July 2021. In September 2021, Hadid’s fans were shocked and curious as to why she didn’t make a single appearance in any of the spring/summer fashion week shows during fashion month like she normally does. In past fashion months, in all four fashion capitals, she usually walked for at least five designers.

According to ELLE magazine, for 2020 fall/winter collections, the model walked for at least 18 shows. Three of the shows took place during Paris Fashion Week, eight during Milan Fasion Week, and seven during NYFW, though one was actually showcased in Los Angeles.

In the summer of 2021, a few months before fashion month in September, she walked for Jacquemus and Off-White in person for their fall/winter collections. Earlier that year she participated in digital fashion shows for Michael Kors, Versace and Fendi.

Hadid made several appearances during PFW in the summer of 2021. Some of these events include the Cannes Film Festival, the Cactus Jack x Dior summer 2022 collection show, Dinner with Dior, a Louis Vuitton Parfum Dinner and the Balenciaga Haute Couture show.

With the amount of events the model showed up to, as well as the number of campaigns she was included in, fans assumed nothing would be different once the fall 2021 fashion month came along.

The MET Gala is an event the model usually attends every year, but she was not in attendance in 2021, which also left fans confused. Because she has been open about her mental health struggles in the past, many fan accounts on Instagram expressed their concern but hoped she was okay nonetheless.

The day after the gala, one fan account on Instagram that the model actually follows back showed their support for Hadid and stood up for her after rumors circulated that she didn’t attend the event because she didn’t receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Because of the rumors, Hadid also posted a picture of herself receiving the vaccine, proving the rumor to be false.

The fan on Instagram, @hellzbellzxo, defended her in a post by saying that she got her vaccine, she’s still suffering from a previously diagnosed disease and has talked about dealing with her mental health. The owner of the account acknowledged that she and other fans were sad since they anticipated the model being at both fashion month and the gala, but wanted to make sure she was okay.

“I am sure the most important thing is that she’s good and everything is fine,” @hellzbellzxo said.

Despite the supermodel’s absences in the past, she’s still been working constantly. In 2021, she starred in ad campaigns for Givenchy, Jean Paul Gautier, Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Miss Sixty, Versace, Victoria’s Secret and several for Michael Kors.

Hadid’s portfolio on her agency’s website, IMG Models, also shows that within the past year she made the covers of Vogue, Vogue Spain, Pop Magazine, V magazine and Grazia magazine.

In that time, the supermodel also became the co-founder of Kin Euphorics, alongside CEO Jen Batchelor, a non-alcoholic drink company that includes ingredients which “promotes relaxation, and tyrosine, a mood enhancer.”

In an interview with Vogue, Hadid mentioned that she had social anxiety and would rely on a couple of drinks to get her to loosen up, which left her with low energy on top of a busy work schedule. With Kin, it still relaxes her but without the alcohol added.

As for the rest of the 2022 fall/winter fashion month, LFW, MFW and PFW, it is not confirmed whether or not Hadid will be in attendance.
