Here’s To The Boy I Fall In Love With…

By McKenna Leavens

I grew up with a mom who has been divorced twice and a dad that was repulsed at the idea of getting married again, but somehow I became someone who believed in love.

I see so many people on social media who say things like, “stop trying to find love” or “there’s no such thing as finding the right person.”  While I understand everyone has different viewpoints based on their experiences, I personally think that’s a bunch of bullshit.

We all want to be loved.

I have every reason in the world to be cynical, two parents who can’t stand the idea of love and two failed relationships…

I refuse to give up on the idea that one day I am going to be so in love it’ll consume me, but that’s not even the best part.

The best part is that he’s gonna love me back just as much. The best part is that no matter what life throws at me or what challenges I face, I know I won’t have to do it alone. The BEST part is that I’m going to find someone who makes me feel wanted and will love me effortlessly.

Love heals what’s broken. Love is what gives us hope.

I understand that most of us are in our 20’s and just trying to have fun with no responsibilities or attachments, but I think a lot of you pass up on some really amazing people because somewhere along the way we were taught that once you fall in love is when everything ends- all of the fun, all of the parties.

I think it’s actually the opposite, once you fall in love your life begins. Instead of getting wasted at that party alone and waking up in the morning on some stranger’s couch with throw up all over you… you now get to go home with someone who is willing to take care of you and if you’re lucky enough, you get to wake up next to them.

Thinking this way may be young and naive, but if it is, then I never want to grow up.

Sometimes I look at the generation I’m in and I get so frustrated. I have yet to meet a single guy who is willing to prioritize love or pick a great girl over drinking… and partying. Read that again.

One day you’re going to look back, and you’re not going to remember all of the beer bongs you did or how many shots you took at that one frat party, but you’re going to remember that girl or guy who you let walk away.

Now, I’m not saying that we are all ready to fall in love, but what I am saying is that I’m ready.

So, here’s to the boy I fall in love with, I can’t wait to meet you… or maybe I already have.
