The Met Gala took place on Monday, May 6 and is ultimately one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year. It’s a time for Vogue head-editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour to bring together some of the most elite celebrities in a way unlike no other. The event is held every year in order to help raise money for the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibit as well as mark the exhibit’s opening.
Every year, Wintour and the executive board of the institution develop a theme in which designers such as Gucci and Alexander Wang partner with celebrities to create an outfit pertaining to that specific theme. This year, Wintour announced “Camp: Notes on Fashion” as the 2019 theme which ultimately meant out-of-the-box outfits with feathers, sparkles, bright colors, overall, super eye-catching.

This year, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, and Alessandro Michele worked alongside Wintour as co-chairs of the event. Gaga was the first to arrive at the Gala and gave the audience a 16-minute performance of four different outfit changes. She first arrived in a neon pink dress with an entourage holding umbrellas, she then changed into a simple long black dress, a pink straight dress and then finally a two-piece set with a pair of high heels.

Following her was Harry Styles who wore an all-black ensemble, a pearl earring, a multicolored manicure, and miscellaneous rings all of which are styled by Gucci. On the arm of Styles was the creative director, Alessandro Michele also in Gucci.

Serena Williams then followed, completing the co-chair arrivals.

Miley Cyrus with Husband Liam Hemsworth, Gigi Hadid, and Shawn Mendes were a few of the major celebrities in attendance who dressed to the unique theme. Others included Lily Collins, Dua Lipa, Zendaya, who dressed up as Cinderella, Kim Kardashian-West, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Katy Perry, Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse and for the first time ever, Youtubers James Charles and Lilly Singh, plus so many more.
While some celebrities interpreted “Camp” as something low-key, simple others took the term “Camp” to a whole other level. From outrageous headpieces to intricate makeup details, it’s evident that the 2019 Met Gala was one to remember.
Below are some of my favorite Met Gala looks.
