In this exclusive series for The Chic Daily, we will spotlight the styles of freshmen at the downtown ASU campus and explore their style evolution over the course of the year. This is the second installment of the series.
How do you decide what to wear in the morning?
Dorsey: “I typically decide at night what I’m going to wear the following day. And it’s usually dependent on what classes I have the next day and the weather.”
Who is your style inspiration?
Dorsey: “I combine elements of Kanye West and David Beckham. I love Kanye West because he does literally whatever he wants. I have a lot of confidence in what I wear but not as much confidence as Kanye or as much money. Where as David Beckham has his essential pieces that he styles and then his more preppy looks which I like a lot.”
How would you describe your style in one word?
Dorsey: “Essential. If I had to strip my closet down to ten pieces, I’d have a lot of black, white and earthy tones and I could still do a lot with those and have it still be an essential piece of me with just basic items.”
What is the style culture of your hometown, Rapid City South Dakota?
Dorsey: “The style culture where I am from, as far as women, there are a lot of girls that seem to have some style about them. Whereas, male fashion was lacking, I personally had one friend that was into fashion. There were people that appreciated things but didn’t go along with it. I think that comes from being from a smaller town where people don’t find expression in clothing. Everyone knows each other, where as when you’re walking down a city street you may not know the people so you have to express yourself in a way other than your personality.”
