Phoenix Goes Stylish

Arizona isn’t typically known as a state with exceptional style. There are some fashionistas out there trying to change this, however. Natalie Davis, co-founder of Couture in the Suburbs (http://coutureinthesuburbs.com/), is one of these people.  Couture in the Suburbs is a fashion blog committed entirely to following the fashion scene in Phoenix .

Natalie has an amazing sense of style that she showcases on her blog, proving that the truly stylish don’t just exist on the streets of LA and NYC. Her favorite trends for fall are leather pieces, high-low skirt lines and anything wine colored. Natalie showed The Chic Daily how she does these trends with three different outfits.

“Mixing textured fabrics gives any outfit a bit of dimension and bunches of personality. The key is keeping the colors neutral. It’s beginning to cool down in Phoenix, so I chose a chunky, military- inspired boot and cozy striped sweater to kick-start the fall season!”

The Chic Daily, Fashion Journalist Club, Lindsay Viker, Natalie Davis

Neutral does not mean safe or boring, as Natalie so clearly illustrates. The attention to detail is really what takes this fashion blogger’s style over the edge. She has an eye for mixing patterns and textures, never playing it safe. After all, fashion is fun, right?

“To say I’m obsessed with gold is an understatement. Throw gold on just about anything studded, and I’m in love. The flirty cutouts and high-low design make this dress my absolute fave! Sky-high platform booties are the perfect touch on this tough-girl, chic look.”

The Chic Daily, Fashion Journalist Club, Lindsay Viker, Natalie Davis

This Urban Outfitters dress is gorgeous on its own, but pairing it with the leather jacket really takes it to the next level. Natalie buys a variety of pieces that her eye is drawn to and figures out how to incorporate the pieces into her existing wardrobe.

The Chic Daily, Fashion Journalist Club, Lindsay Viker, Natalie Davis

“Being comfy never looked so good, right? Go-to suede wedges and leggings paired with a cranberry top – the perfect dose of color. This distressed, button-clad vest is easy to layer and never fails to be fierce.”

The Chic Daily, Fashion Journalist Club, Lindsay Viker, Natalie Davis

Natalie certainly knows how to play off of the current fashion trends while keeping a fresh and distinct perspective. Every look is layered to perfection and paired with sky-high shoes and statement jewelry…oh, and of course, fab sunglasses (like the Ray Bans in the first look)!

Emmy Awards | Fashion on the Red Carpet

The red carpet is celebrities’ opportunity to glam out and put their best foot forward. For the rest of us watching at home, it gives us fashion to talk about for days! The 64th annual Emmy Awards definitely didn’t disappoint! Television’s best stars gave us looks that we loved and an opportunity to spot some trends.

Bright yellow was the color of choice for several celebs! The style of dress varied quite considerably, but the bright color definitely dominated the runway.

(Bottom right across) Hannah Simone , Claire Danes in Lanvin, Julie Bowen

Printed dresses aren’t typically seen on the red carpet, but these stars stepped out of the box and into prints. The simple hair kept all the looks from being overdone. Goodwin’s high neckline and emphasized waist keep the dress youthful and fresh while sticking to her signature aesthetic.

There were, of course, a ton of other major red carpet moments. Below are some of my personal favorites:

Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthier Couture

Zooey Deschanel in Reem Acra

January Jones in Zac Posen

Nicole Kidman in Antonio Berardi

Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad

Lucy Liu in Versace

Kerry Washington in Vivienne Westwood

We can’t wait to see more looks from our favorite celebrities as red carpet season continues!

Milan Fashion Week | Recap of Sept 20 Shows

The shows from the second day of Milan fashion week couldn’t have been more different from each other. From effortless at Emporio Armani to lace and frills at BluGirl, day two covered a wide spectrum of aesthetics. The oversized trend seemed to remain constant on the runway, and sheer fabrics made multiple appearances as well. These shows featured a predominantly neutral color palette, relying on texture and patterns to create interests in the looks.

MaxMara

The MaxMara show was a gorgeous display of just how right neutrals can be. The collection stayed away from the bright colors that dominated the runway last year, playing instead with mixed patterns and textures. Leopard print, plaid and knits kept the oversized separates youthful and fun, while nodding to a more classic vibe.

Blugirl

The BluGirl collection was sweet and sophisticated. Lace, sheer panels and sparkle made these ready-to-wear looks as feminine as can be. Floppy hats and flower crowns completed the overall aesthetic. Messy hair helped the looks stay fashion-forward and out of pageant girl territory.

Emporio Armani

Emporio Armani was the epitome of effortless fashion. The show featured extreme draping paired with menswear inspired blazers. The natural waved hair and minimal make-up completed the care-free vibe.  Pastel colors and mixed patterns prevented the collection from becoming boring and forgotten.

Prada

Whimsical printed coats and metallic socks with bows? A definite do at the Prada show. The mostly black and white collection was broken up with daisy graphics and pops of red. This collection can be pulled off by fashionistas who aren’t afraid to walk that fine line between ridiculous and chic.

Fabulous Looks For Spring Weddings

Spring is finally here, bringing feelings of love and happiness that, of course, lead to weddings! As fashionistas, we are thrilled about this because everyone knows that being a wedding guest is basically just an excuse to go buy a new dress (as long as you manage to stay out of the wedding party and avoid the dreaded bridesmaid dress).

When selecting your dress for a wedding, there are very important things to remember:

Time and Location – You should keep in mind whether the wedding is outdoors or indoors, during the day or in the evening hours.

For daytime weddings, you will want to wear lighter colors and keep it more casual. Evening weddings are typically more formal, and as it does tend to be cooler at night, you will want to be more covered up.

Accessories – You also want to remember when planning your outfit, that the focus should be on the bride and groom. Avoid excessively bright colors and crazy accessories. A statement piece of jewelry can be a great conversation piece at the reception table as long as it doesn’t deter attention from the bride as she walks down the aisle during the ceremony.

Shoes – Your shoes should be outfit appropriate, but not so high that the bride’s mother is wondering whether you are there as a guest, or as the entertainment afterwards. Wedges are great for outdoor weddings, while nude and black pumps compliment any formal attire.

Once you have taken those factors into consideration, it’s important that you find a dress that you feel comfortable in! You want to be able to let loose and have fun, so find a dress that makes you look and feel fabulous.

Now that you have some guidance on what to wear, go ahead and RSVP yes to all those wedding invitations piling up on your kitchen counter! All you have to worry about now is finding the gift!

MIM Rocks Fashion Show

Phoenix fashion week hosted their 2nd Annual MIM Rocks Fashion event on Thursday, March 1, at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix.

Director Brian Hill started this event as a way to highlight stylists in Arizona to continue pursuing their goal of moving Arizona fashion forward. Because stylists usually work behind the scenes as part of a team to create a fabulous show, their hard work can be overlooked and their vision is sometimes distorted to fit the aesthetic of the designer, hair and makeup team and show producer.

The Chic Daily, Fashion Journalist Club, MIM Rocks Fashion

At the MIM Rocks Fashion event however, stylists were given control over the hair, makeup, and even music to bring the clothing from their designers/store owners to life. Fawn Cheng, Brian Swan, Jill Laine and Ginger Murphy all produced amazing shows that highlighted different countries around the world from the United States, to Mexico and France.

Playing up the sensuality so prevalent in Mexican culture, Fawn Cheng created a show that left the audience feeling passionate and alive. Sexy cutouts, beaded details and silky fabrics came together in evening wear that transported one out of Phoenix and to the heart of Mexico. Statement jewelry from the line Virgin Saints and Angels and red lipstick complimented all the looks.

Bounty Hunter has finally made its way from Colorado to its second location at the Biltmore Fashion Park. The store celebrated by bringing its greatest menswear lines to the MIM catwalk, featuring lines from James Jeans, Aeronautica Militare, Zoe Rios and more. The store aims to fuse the warmth of its Colorado home with the edgy trends and rising fashion scene of Phoenix, and with the help of stylist Brian Swan of RHMStyle the goal was achieved. Chiseled, polished and urbane looks dominated the runway with a little flair of debonair – Swan said his inspiration was Ryan Gosling in the movie Drive. Swoon.

Ginger Murphy took the eclectic style of Vintage by Misty and created a variety of looks that perfectly reflected American culture. “I’m all about prints, color and texture,” said Misty during the press conference that prefaced the event. This was definitely reflected in the show, which transitioned from a nautical vibe to Woodstock hippie to 60’s mod, finishing with vacation getaway dresses. Vintage by Misty reflected a variety of aesthetics while pulling every look together with a very American vibe.

Caroline Monick

French designer Caroline Monick flew all the way from her small town in France to the MIM catwalk, and she undoubtedly stole the show. This line was clearly suffused with her European roots and the French love for femininity and elegance. The silk-loving designer’s pieces were light, playful periwinkle or light-colored dresses accessorized by stylist Jill Laine with coco-inspired drapes of pearls or nothing at all – very romantic, sweet and chic.

84th Annual Academy Awards – The Stars that Shined

The Oscars are a night of glamour and glitz, and this year was no exception! Americans watched to see which of their favorite stars took home the gold statue, and of course who they would be wearing.

Sparkle and Color were the two big trends of the evening. Hair and makeup were kept simple, while quite a few actresses sported a bright red lip. Although all the stars put in the effort, these ten ladies took the gold for my Best Dressed List:

Pinned to perfection

Inspiration for style can be found just about anywhere, from the runways of New York City, to the streets of Los Angeles to your college campus. But how amazing would it be if you had access to all these looks on just one website?

Pinterest is a rapidly growing phenomenon that allows users to find new looks that push the boundaries of fashion and you to step out of your comfort zone.

By enabling users to “pin” any picture on the Internet on their personal boards, Pinterest has created an online environment that cultivates creativity and new ideas.

“There are so many different styles and looks on the Internet right at our fingertips on Pinterest that we wouldn’t otherwise see,” Kimberly Miller, a junior at Arizona State University, said. “In real life, we only see what people around us actually wear but on Pinterest there’s no limit.”

Fashionistas are definitely utilizing Pinterest to create an online world of fashion. By following celebrity style icons such as Nina Garcia and Michael Kors, users are able to find out first hand what the next big trends will be.

The Chic Daily, Thechicdaily.com, Fashion Journalist Club, Pinterest

“Re-pinning” photos also allows you to connect with other users that have a style similar to your own.

Dawn Heur, a sophomore at ASU, said, “Pinterest has inspired, and changed my style. It opens your eyes to a whole new world of fashion and ideas. Pinterest has created a virtual runway. You are constantly seeing new styles that inspire you to push the limits of fashion. Pinterest has positivity influenced the creative world.”

Some users have even translated their online inspiration to their physical wardrobe.

Brooke Molineaux, a senior at Gilbert High School, said, “I put together different outfits I find on Pinterest to create my own. It inspires me to step out of my comfort zone and try something different every once in a while! And the site definitely keeps me up to date on all of the new up and coming trends.”

Transform your wardrobe, one click at a time! Join the online community of fashionistas and never stress about what to wear again.
